Abstract

Human resource developments play a decisive role to run any productive sector smoothly, especially the services such as banking, finance, health, transport including tourism. Hence, it has been appropriately said that the most valuable of all capital is that invested in human beings. HRD involves the use of processes through which the personnel in an organisation are prepared to give their best for corporate objectives and achieve optimal effectiveness in their job roles. This research paper attempts to analyse and find out the human resource development practices prevalent in the public sector tourism organisations as well as reputed hotels and travel agencies of Odisha. The study is primarily based on responses gathered through personal interviews with few executives of these organisations. Information pertaining to employees’ selection and recruitment, training, performance appraisal, etc. which are considered important from HRD point of view, have been collected and analysed. Statistical Bulletins and official records of the Dept. of Tourism, Govt. of Odisha, relevant books, WTTC Report, etc. constitute secondary sources of data and reinforce the primary data collection to bring authenticity in the research.
