Human capital like knowledge, skills, creative abilities and talents play an important role in deciding the efficiency and effectiveness of an organisations work force. HRD assumes significance in view of the fast changing organizational environment and need of the organisation to adopt new techniques in order to respond to the environmental changes. Skill development has become a priority in India to bridge the widening skill gap between industry needs and available workforce. The economic prosperity and human development of any nation primarily depends on the magnitude of skills and knowledge the national bestowed with. With the demographic dividend, India needs to impart adequate skills to its workforce. This study attempts toexplore the challenges facing the skills development system in India & proposes conceptual solutions that could be adopted to resolve such challenges.
