The level of education and health is an important barometer of progress of a society. Though Haryana has made significant progress in education since its tinception but the state still lack in education indicators commensurate with the level of its per capita income. The present paper analyses the level, patterns and trends in inter-district disparities in the education in the State of Haryana using various outcome and infrastructure indicators namely literacy rate, drop outs, enrollment of the students, number of educational institutes, gross enrolment ratio etc. Using data from statistica. abstract of Haryana, NSSO and census data from Registrar General of India, the paper constructs a composite index of education for evaluating the degree of disparities in education in Haryana. The paper found significant inter-district, rural-urban and male-female disparities in Haryana though the convergence is observed in education indicators over time.
