Since independence, the rapid growth of the small scale industrial sector is a significant component of Indian economy. To obtain this rapid development, governments have framed successive policies and guidelines which include modernization of technology, marketing assistance, investment ceilings, fiscal incentives and subsidies scheme, reservation schemes and so on to facilitate the growth of small scale industrial sector. This present study elaborately discussed the history and metamorphoses of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and an attempt to identify how the MSME had been in the past and what are the obstacles and advancement they undergone in the past to become this current scenario of the MSME.
