Abstract

The institutional libraries need tobe changed to serve the changing end user preferences. The western countries have adopted to digitalization but developing nations such as India needed more time to adopt such changes. The librarian played a crucial role in bringing the concept of digital library starting with procurement process to adopting the system in the institutions. Many studies have proven that digitalization is essential, but traditional libraries also have a major function in terms of catering the information needs. Therefore, the author feels that digitalization should support the functioning of traditional service rather not to replace them.
