Abstract

The purpose of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is to bring several benefits to the company by using a mutual database and real time data. There is a need to discuss ERP system, how it integrates and co-ordinates the organization as a system enterprise. The growth and success of ERP adoption is depend on how well the legacy systems are transformed into ERP systems. ERP system has a capability of extending to Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM) and other extended modules, and integration with the Internet-enabled applications. ERP systems are now ubiquitous in large businesses and the current move by vendors is to repackage them for small and medium enterprises. This migration has many consequences and need to be discussed through the understanding of history, evolution and concept of ERP systems and their architectures. The paper makes an attempt to provide the conceptual understanding of ERP systems in a changing business environment.
