The study was based on impact of MNREGA on rural – urban migration of beneficiaries under NREGA. The study was conducted in Allahabad district. In Allahabad district two blocks –Chaka and Dandi were selected randomly. Qualitative methods such as focus group discussion, case study and interview with key informants were used for data collection. One of the major purposes of the MNREGS is to increase the family income of the poor households in the rural areas. It is the direct benefit expected of the MNREGS. Even among those who reported change in the family income about 51.7 per cent reported that only a marginal change is realized (Rs.<2500 per annum). The household savings is a function of the household income and expenditure, 55.1 per cent of the households have saved up to Rs.35.8 per annum while 32 percent of the household save up to Rs.<1250/- per annum. One of the objectives of MNREGA was to reduce the rural – urban migration it was found that majority of the workers 72.7 percent not migrated in search of job after the implementation of MNREGS.
