The Indian hotel industry witnessed unprecedented growth during the Indian financial years 2003–08 due to the flourishing economy, resulting in an increase in business and leisure travel and visible growth in inbound as well as outbound tourism.
The purpose of research is to study the viability of a hotel in Chandigarh & to study the trends in Indian Hotel Industry during the last decade. The design of the research is exploratory in nature because the objective is to discover insights about the Indian Hotel Industry during the last decade and identify the key variables and their relationships. Major finding is Chandigarh has a huge tourism business potential because of two major reasons viz. Places of tourism interest in the city itself as well as location advantage to the city. Hotel owners need to estimate “the real demand for rooms” before they invest huge capital in development/expansion, otherwise it leads to over-supply of rooms in future and hotel owners would have to face unoccupied rooms.
