Bahis: an unsung paradigm in religious and ethnic tourism at Pehowa, Haryana

People have been traveling for ages for finding solace with religious obligations and it is supposed to be the oldest form of travel. Religious tourism is a way to find your roots and gain that spiritual effervescence. Pehowa, an otherwise sleepy and non-descript town in Haryana, finds a special mention as a religious tourism lexicon.

In this article, we have tried to throw some light on the Bahis of Pehowa as old as 350–400 years where the tourist arrivals are enumerated in a different style altogether with their family records and all that spurred by religious motivations. Often ignored but this can be a great leveler for people who are in search for their roots and thus, a great destination for ethnic tourism too. But despite all that, Pehowa is confined to people from Haryana and Punjab only notwithstanding its potentialities. We have also tried to analyze the reasons as to what holds it back from becoming it a world class destination and therefore, we have suggested some measures as well.
