Abstract

The present novel is a well-knitted depiction of the life of three main ladies who live together in a joint family and how the Caste-system and Patriarchy, the two major factors, are responsible for creating pathos their lives. Indu, the main protagonist, act as the liberatory figure that initiates the revolutionary cultural change in the family and also becomes the bearer of hybrid identity. The novelist through various characters has voiced against the consequences of old stale custom of Child marriage.
