In the present era academic stress has become very severe for a student. Students undergo stress at assignments, mid-term exams, weekend exams etc., stress is driving many students to frustration. Academic stress has become more with the increasing awareness of education. Parents, because of limited children, are developing high aspirations of their children ignoring their abilities. They are dictating their wards to become doctors or engineers. The managements and schools, due to professional competition are offering instruction for more hours without holidays, ignoring the physical psychological and recreational needs of the child. This is even more with the students of intermediate (or 10+2). The objective of the present study is to find out the relation of academic stress to academic achievement of senior intermediate students of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh. The sample consisted of 300 senior intermediate students. The Students Academic Stress Scale (SASS) consisting of 40 items was adapted for the present study. Results indicate that there is a low positive correlation between academic stress and academic achievement of students studying Intermediate. Moreover female students have more academic stress than male students; urban students have more academic stress than rural students; english medium students have more academic stress than telugu medium students; science students have more academic stress than arts students and private college students have more academic stress than government college students.
