MFIS as promoters of women entrepreneurship: A performance based study of women micro entrepreneurs in Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka

Microfinance has been the form of development of the self-help movement. SHGs have spread rapidly due to their ease of replication. SHG Bank Linkage has provided the capacity for SHGs to increase their capital base to fund more members and bigger projects. The study covers the working of two MFIs in fostering the entrepreneurship among the rural women who are very poor and who are hardly able to make their both ends meet. Many factors like education, family background, employment and technical training, participation of women will enhance the social status of women. The study reveals the fact that micro enterprises in the rural sector have vast and unexplored potential in absorbing a large amount of rural women for a wide range of activities like foodstuffs, beverage processing, petty trading.
