Abstract

The aim of this research paper is to characterize the Ti carbon nanotubes using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD). Ti metal particles are clearly visible in SEM image as spherical particles or white dots of about 2030 nm. Metal Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) show very different properties than the pure CNTs. They are hydrophobic, their roughness is about 50% smaller than CNTs and they exhibit a strong visible photoluminescence, which is absent in pure nanotubes. The AFM and SEM images of CNTs show a network of CNTs where each tube is completely covered by nanoparticles with dimensions of about 20–30 nm, while bigger particles (about 100 nm) are randomly dispersed on sheet surface. The XRD results show that the crystalline size of CNTs with metal is of size approximately 11 to 18 nm.
