Effectiveness of MGNREGA in generating rural employment opportunities

This research study has been undertaken to examine the impact of MGNERA programme on generating rural employment opportunities in India. The objective of this study is to highlight the procedure adopted for the successful execution of MGNREGA in the rural areas. MGNREGA was an historical act by the Government of India that locked rural employment in India. MGNREGA has a lot of potential of lifting millions out of the moral indignation of poverty and providing employment to alleviate poverty. There was a huge excitement amongst the literati when the program was initially launched. As with many past schemes, MGNREGA suffers from poor implementation and there is a lack of trust amongst the people who avail this scheme. The government needs more vigorous implementation to fully actualize the scheme. Moreover, there is an over-riding sentiment amongst the people there need to be other schemes in the same paradigm for the benefit of the poor. This is exactly where schemes like MGNREGA can go a long way in winning the large scale trust of the people. But having said that the sad reality is that scheme is currently stalled in the political tricks of the local leaders. This paper Effectiveness of MGNREGA in generating rural employment opportunities exemplifies the issue, challenges and significance of MGNREGA, since it enactment in 2005, MGNREGA is playing crucial strategic role to improve the livelihood security of rural India. An attempt through this paper has been made to analyze the different issues and challenges and achievements of the scheme.
