Abstract

This paper reviews the impact of changing technology on information storage on the internet. An attempt is made to elucidate the privacy interests enjoyed by individuals when engaged in intellectual activities and the possible negative impact Digital Rights Management (DRM) features such as monitoring and constraints could portend for privacy rights. As the paper is theoretical in nature, in methodology, review of different primary and secondary sources of information have been consulted to gather the required amount of information. The authors came up with the finding that various steps have been taken at international level to safe guard the intellectual rights but with the advancements in ICT's more challenges are posed with every passing day which needs to be dealt with priority. While advocating for a balance between DRM, protection of author's rights and the right to privacy of individual domain, we conclude that deliberate effort must be made to beef up intellectual property rights in the context of current storage innovations in order to cater for the subtleties introduced by the impact of modern storage and protection technologies.
