Abstract

The concept of emotional intelligence has gained importance in the recent years. It can be a better predictor of success, quality of relationships and overall happiness. Emotional intelligence (EI) is "the ability to monitor one's own and others’ feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and actions”. Emotional intelligence plays a very critical role in the overall quality of our personal and professional lives. While tools and technology help us to learn and master information, nothing can replace our ability to learn, manage, and master our emotions and the emotions of those around us. The objective of the study was to identify the level of ‘Emotional Intelligence’ level among the students and teachers. The study was based on 50 college students and 50 college teachers in Coimbatore. Convenience sampling technique was adopted to collect samples. Standardized questionnaire developed by Dr. Dalip Singh and Dr. N. K. Chandha was used to collect information on Emotional Intelligence. The study found that the students had High EQ and the teachers had extremely high EQ.
