A study on perception of employees towards medical safety in laboratory and housekeeping departments

Hospital is a place where sick and injured are treated to restore health and save lives. However, they are the major producers of potentially infectious agents, harmful wastes and other byproducts. Hospital staff face varied health hazards and injurious risks whilst at work, which includes strains and sprains from lifting& handling equipments, exposure to chemical hazards, radiation, blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases, sharps, and security problems. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the hospital staff's protection against medical safety issue and also investigated the perception of employees towards medical safety on two major departments namely; Laboratory and Housekeeping departments. A descriptive research had been carried out in laboratory (20 technicians) and housekeeping (60 housekeepers) department who were highly exposed to harmful hazards in the hospital by Simple Random Sampling technique through a well-structured questionnaire. The data has been evaluated by using percentage analysis, weighted average analysis.. etc to determine the outcomes of the study.
