Abstract

This method is basically is the optical heterodyning method where the optical interferometer allows time resolve measurement of very low amplitude mechanical vibration(sub-angstrom). It uses a single frequency laser source for fast contactless detection. The principle of operation (Heterodyne interferometer) eliminates any kind of troublesome parasitic vibrations. The compactness of the device makes possible verity of application. The Article aims the setting up of optical components of the interfererometer including alignment of the He-Ne laser, Acousto-optic modulator, various prisms, lenses, polarizer, optical detectors, etc coupled to this into the wideband electronics circuitry in which signal processing system delivers a celebrated response, directly proportional to the object displacement.
