A saga of struggle to survive and surface-a study of Ntozake Shange's for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf

The paper “A SAGA OF STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE AND SURFACE-A STUDY OF NTOZAKE SHANGE’S FOR COLORED GIRLS WHOHAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE/WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF” deals with the life of the African women which is overcharged with the malaise of discrimination, humiliation and biased atrocities completely devoid of hope and happiness, of security and dignity. Women are exposed to ‘multiple jeopardy’; – discrimination based on sex, race, class and sexual orientation-forms which are interdependent and interactive. The theme progresses from particular woman's experiences to a collective black feminine experience. A detailed analysis is done on different, difficult phases of womanhood -the loveless life and their longing for true love. Shange's vision is to create a new world of liberation through unity. Such a self-awareness, self-esteem, sisterhood and awakening will only include all oppressed women of the world thereby drawing them all together into a Universal embrace. Moving to the ends of their own rainbows is their moment of surfacing which signifies hope and strength to face new challenges and struggles.
