Abstract

The current paper attempted to find out the attitude of marriageable women of 18 wards of Nambol Municipal Council, Manipur (India) towards dowry. Altogether 200 respondents in the age group 18–31 years were taken through cluster sampling technique. The Dowry Attitude Scale (DAS) standardized by R.R. Sharma was employed to assess the attitude towards dowry. The results of the study indicated that the marriageable had favorable attitude towards dowry (mean= 192.215, SD= 2.96). Further negative negligible correlation was found between dowry attitude and age (r=-0.065) and positive low correlation between dowry attitude and educational level (r= 0.386). Limitations of the study have been given and suggestions for further research have also been provided.
