Ecotourism: A case study of environmental responsible behaviour of tourists in Mysore Karnataka, India

The study examines the factors involving environmental responsible behaviour while visiting Mysore, Karnataka India. It investigates tourists’ environmental beliefs and perceptions and how it is reflected in their behaviours while on holiday. Based on ANOVA, the study examined the relationship between the socio-demographic characteristics and environmental responsible behaviours and beliefs. The findings show that tourists have positive environmental behaviours (ERB) and environmental beliefs (EB), showing concerns for conserving and preserving the environment. They have high levels of understanding of the impacts of ecotourism on the destination sites and its surrounding environment. In regards to socio-demographic factors, there were differences between all variables and environmental responsible behaviours and beliefs of the tourists. Both occupation and education were found to have very strong relationships with environmental beliefs and education was found to have a moderate relationship with environmental responsible behaviour.
