Socio political development in pre-colonial barak valley of assam

The socio political development in Pre-colonial Barak Valley of Assam was determined by the socio political organizations existed in the neighboring areas. It was essentially a Bengal phenomenon. The earliest reference to a political organization in Barak Valley was a Janapada. After that, the Sovereign Srihatta Rajya flourished in the whole valley with Brahmanical Hindu State model, representing the pan Indian socio cultural continuum. The fall of Srihatta Rajya was followed by the rise of Tripuri, Jayantia, Gaur and Laur states I the valley. The foundation of society must have been laid down in that period. The society way hierarchically organized on the basis of castes in the period. Professional economic activities led social inequalities among the masses of the ancient Barak Valley.
