Assistant Professor,
A major security problem for operating systems is user authentication. Users normally authenticate themselves. The problem is how to determine whether a user identity is authentic or not. Use of passwords is the most common approach used for this purpose. However there are several loopholes which may result in weakening of password security. Therefore steps should be taken to make password security breaches as difficult as possible.
