The first part of this paper deals with the existentialist view of choice and responsibility. In the view of most existentialists, the main characteristic of human being is the freedom to choose. Existentialists have argued that as human being is free to choose his own path, he must accept the responsibility of its subsequent action. The second part of this paper elaborately studies one of the major plays of Arthur Miller, After the Fall vis-à-vis his projection of identity crisis of his characters arising out of their struggles to negotiate between their individual choice and responsibility.
