A study on knowledge and attitude of housewives towards health workers in selected rural area of mangalore

Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), are community health workers instituted by the government of India's ministry of health and family welfare as a part of national rural health mission. One of the key components of the National Rural Health Mission is to provide every village in the country with a trained female community health activist. Purpose of the study is to assess the knowledge and attitude of housewives towards health workers. To accomplish the objectives of the study, structured knowledge questionnaire and attitude scale was prepared by reviewing the related literature and in consultation with subject experts. The sample comprised of 100 housewives between 20–60 years of age. The results were, majority of the housewives (52%) were in the age group between 20–30 years, (32%) of the subjects were educated upto primary level, (51%) were Muslims, (44%) belongs to joint family, (30%) of the subjects were having income between Rs. 4001–6000, (33%) of the subjects younger child were in the age group of >12 years. There was an association between knowledge and attitude with demographic variable income per month.
