Effect of need achievement and repression-sensitization tendency on coping styles of working women (university teachers, govt. administrative officers and govt. doctors)

This study was conducted to find out the effect of need achievement and repression-sensitization tendency on coping styles of working women of three selected professions (University Teachers, Govt. Administrative Officers and Govt. Doctors). A total sample of 240 working women, 80 from each selected categories were administered the measures of need achievement (nAch) and repression-sensitization(R-S) tendency and coping styles. The mean, ’t’ test and Pearson'S ‘r’ were applied to analyze the data. Overall, the sensitizers were found to use significantly high escape avoidance coping response as compared to repressors. Repressors were found to use significantly more positive reappraisal coping responses. Among University teachers, need achievement was found to be negatively correlated with self-controlling coping.
