This research paper titled ‘Vocabulary Acquisition in English –Some Strategies’ begins with an introduction on the importance of a sound vocabulary for the effective use of languages and moves with a brief discussion on the types of vocabulary. The appropriate use of vocabulary and its effects on the use of language are highlighted in this paper. Besides a brief elucidation on the choice of vocabulary, the paper brings out the positive and negative effects of the use of idioms and phrases while using the language. The paper ends with suggestions on the strategies that can be well-employed during the process of vocabulary acquisition in English.
