The article attempts to examine the status of the children's literature in Gujarati besides laying emphasis on the importance of having literature for the growth of the budding ones in any society. Observations found during the study are supported by various reasons and some fundamental questions about the status have been also discussed in the article. Comparative analysis of western children's literature and Indian/Gujarati children's literature is also included in the article. The evolution of children's literature in Gujarati has been also sketched along with the outline of the history of its progression. The factors influencing the trends of writing of the said literature are also described in the article. How the contemporary writing for children can be produced in a more appealing way is also discussed towards the end of the article.
