Ph. D. Scholar,
In this paper an attempt is been made to address the changing perspective of land over time. Earlier the question of land was basically related to the redistribution aspect of land for agricultural development. But now, with the emergence of new perspectives, land issue is not only related to use of land for agricultural purposes but also allocation of land for agricultural and industrial purposes. Industrialisation is a very important component for development but it cannot be supported at the expense of agriculture and the basic rights of the people for land and livelihood. In recent years the anxiety of rapid industrialization worsens the situation by acquiring land on an even larger scale from the hands of tenants and farmers. In this paper I have used empirical evidence to shows the present scenario of land acquisition and the conversion of agricultural land both voluntarily and non-voluntarily for non-agricultural purposes. There is an urgent need of a land reform that can check unregulated misappropriation of lands without compromising or slowing down the industrial progress of the country.
