Student satisfaction has always been of prime concern to the management of the colleges essentially from the ethical point of view and with a secondary objective of pinpointing the strengths and to identify the weak areas for improvement. Student experiences can be used to improve the quality of student learning, as well as for benchmarking and funding decisions. Student satisfaction not only enables higher authority to reorganise accordingly but also gives an opportunity to develop a system for continuous monitoring in meeting or exceeding the students' needs effectively.
In the light of this background, a thorough review of literature was made to understand the contribution of different factors which are responsible for the student satisfaction. This paper deals with finding the most critical factors for students' satisfaction and finally formulating the student(s) satisfaction index to measure student(s) satisfaction, especially in the private engineering colleges in Mysore region under VTU. Statistical t-test was conducted to analyze the collected data and finally the student satisfaction index was formulated on a scale of 100.
