Abstract

The study was enquiry find out whether there exists any relation between personality traits and mood states of an individual. Big five personality factors viz: extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, conscientiousness and neuroticism were measured using standardised scales. Mood states of an individual was measured using PANAS scale. A correlation analysis was conducted to understand the association between personality trait variable and mood states of an individual. The correlation analysis showed a positive relation varying from weak to moderate relationship between these variables. However, the relation between neuroticism and mood state was totally opposite than we predicted using literature. Later an independent sample t test was conducted to understand the variations in independent variable will have on dependent variable. The findings of this study have implications in occupational psychology, management, Human resource management, counselling and psychology
