Abstract

Recently, Higher Learning Institutions (HLIs) in Africa are increasingly adopting student Academic Registration Information System (ARIS) for the purpose of improving student academic services. Most of the HLIs cannot afford to implement fully the e-learning system due to the fact that it is more expensive than just ARIS. This study therefore, established for the purpose of assessing the success and effectiveness of ARIS in HLIs in Tanzania. Moreover, the study used the revised DeLone and McLean Information System success model to validate the usefulness and benefits of adopting ARIS to both individuals and institutions. The six constructs of DeLone and McLean IS model system quality, information quality, service quality, intention to use, user satisfaction and perceived net benefit to user was evaluated. Questionnaires were collected from 151 students and were analyzed using SPSS ver20. Moreover, the Pearson product moment correlation analysis technique and multiple regressions analysis were applied in the data analysis. The findings revealed that the system quality construct was found to have no significant contribution to the behavioral intention of using the ARIS system. Also, most of students in developing countries are not well exposed to ICT solutions and therefore the findings revealed that students had no enough IT-knowledge. Consequently, IT-service quality in terms of availability and support services found to have no statistical influence to student satisfaction with ARIS system which implies that students need a training about the ARIS system.
