Abstract

Socioeconomic prosperity of India is dependent on industrial development. Prosperity and Environmental degradation have correlation. Ambient Air quality is major concern for India. Many Indian metropolitans’ air quality has reached to their threshold limit. In this article carbon mono-oxide (Co) concentration and its behaviour of change has studied in detail between 2010 to 2015 in an important industrial clusters of Burdwan district, West Bengal. Co is the raw material for carbn di oxide (CO2) and causes greenhouse gas effect and health problems. The six years data of Co, shows it never crossed National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQs)and it has decreased. It has seasonal variation. Health damage due to Co concentration also observed in the studied area. This study furthermore monitors the role of India as a signatory of Kyoto Protocol. The crux of this study reveals in reference to studied Industrial area, industries are concern for pollution abatement and concludes with note that India's growth is sustainable in nature. As a signatory of Kyoto-protocol, India is concern about Co emission.
