In the contemporary world, an increasing number of enterprises, including rural tourism businesses, employ marketing methods and knowledge in their activities. Rural tourism involves activities that make the rural community to directly engage in tourism either by them having full control or having their culture serves as the attraction. For developing rural tourism we need to understand the rural environment, demography, and socio culture, economic and political background of that place. Also it is required to study impact of marketing, role of government and understanding community perception for development of tourism circuit. This study is chosen to review academic, empirical and conceptual based research reports as well as publications directly related to rural tourism development, community perception, understanding potential of rural tourism etc. Each study once identified was reviewed according to the outcomes it produced for the village community and range of factors which were considered to be important in determining the success of tourism.
