An Analysis of The Relationship and Mutual Influence of Literature and Indian National Movement

The article attempts to analyze the concept of Nation followed by Nationalism. How the concept of Nation can be perceived beyond the understanding of geography and politics is emphasized subsequently. Article tries to surface the perspective about nationalism as a cultural construct. This paper is an attempt to analyze the mutual relationship and impact of nationalism and literature during the struggle for India's independence from middle of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. It also argues that patriotic literature in different Indian languages helped the spread of nationalist ideology among the masses. Examples from the contributions by Indian writers have been sited in the article along with an observation that Novels and Poems were the most influential carriers of the Nationalist spirit described by various litterateurs. The importance of the study of nationalist literature is evaluated towards the end of the article.
