The past few decades have witnessed a monumental shift in the way women are treated in the workplace. In the corporate world, more and more women have been shattering the glass ceiling which is the barrier that women confront as they climb the organizational hierarchy. A woman faces all the hurdles and reaches the top position in a company. Most of these women were offered the top job when the companies were on the brink of a collapse. As these women have taken the helm during a crisis, the chances of failure are more. Then the fight begins for her to retain that job. They find themselves on a glass cliff as they are pushed to the edge of failure. Psychologists Michelle Ryan and Alex Haslam discovered the phenomenon called glass cliff. It says that women are preferred for leadership roles whenever there is a risky and precarious situation. The aim of this article is to study about those women executives who have successfully conquered the glass cliff in the corporate world. The data was collected from secondary sources from websites and online journals.
