Professional Ethics and Teachers

According to Bayles ‘Profession is nothing but a type of socialization when people organize for a cause.’ A professional is a member of a profession or any person who earns their living from a specified activity. The term also describes the standards of education and training that prepare members of the profession with the particular knowledge and skills necessary to perform the role of that profession. Ethics or moral philosophy is the branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct. Professional ethics is the personal and corporate standards of behaviour expected of the members of a particular profession. It has a Code of ethics which sets out their expectations of a member's behaviour and the boundaries within which members have to operate. Teaching profession has certain ideals abided by rules, regulations, codes, laws and by-laws, which have to be fulfilled through the development of skill formation related to specific education. The Ethical Standards for the teaching profession are care, trust, respect and integrity. The standards of practice for the teaching profession should be commitment to students and student learning, leadership in learning communities, ongoing professional learning, professional knowledge and professional practice.
