The Influence of Job Satisfaction on Organizational Commitment: With Reference to Wolaitasodo Town Revenue Authority Organization

Abstract

Both job satisfaction and organizational commitment are mutually interrelated and interdependent which influence each other however; the influence of job satisfaction in defining the organizational commitment is widely researched topic and organizational commitment is perceived as a key factor for efficiency of organizational performance. This study focuses on the effect of job satisfaction facets on organizational commitment indicators. The standardized questionnaires of the job satisfaction survey (JSS) and the organizational commitment survey were utilized to collect data. Frequency and percentage were employed to analyze general information about the respondents. Then by using SPSS, Spearman rho(r) correlation was run to analyze the association between job satisfaction parameters and organizational commitment indicators. Spearman rho results shows that every parameters of job satisfaction survey is directly correlated in statistically significant way though there is difference on the strength of their correlation. For instance, supervision, rewards and team work are directly and strongly correlated with commitment parameters such as organizational citizenship, involvement and loyalty. Benefits and channels of communication have medium positive correlation at p<0.05. And payment, promotion and work itself have weak association with organizational commitment indicators. As work procedure is directly as well as strongly correlated, it soundly needs to rethink or redesign by removing tiresome, time consuming and non-value adding process and Supervision needs to be considered as one of the important factors that help to build up organizational commitment. Also, the organization needs to work on increasing employee satisfaction on, especially, intrinsic reward aspects such as recognition, appreciation and recommendation and others so that it could help to step up the level of employees’ commitment. At the last, the organization needs to encourage teamwork and fulfill the necessary things for the team that can be taken as one of the best ways used by management of the organization to enhance overall employee commitment.
