Abstract

Many Employers both in India and abroad have expressed about the lack of Emotional intelligence skills in fresh Engineering graduates and cite that as a reason for their inability to cope up with the demands of the work place and resultant issues. While the Employers and Employers' associations like NASSCOM have stated this, not many Engineering colleges are providing Training on Emotional Intelligence to their students. Towards making this happen, a study was conducted to ascertain the opinion of the Engineering students themselves after giving them training on two important aspects of Emotional intelligence vaiz, Self-Regulation and Empathy. This paper presents findings from that study of collected Feedback of the third year Engineering students (n=191) from two private and two Government Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, India, who were participants of a two day Training on the two important aspects of Emotional Intelligence vaiz Self-Regulation and Empathy. Findings indicate that participants liked the program, found the methodology used was appropriate and both aspects of EI are relevant and importantly Training on Emotional Intelligence is a must.
