A Study of Information Technology and Job Satisfaction

The paper aims to identify the impact of information technology on employees Job Satisfaction. Organizations, individual and the whole society are affected by the information and communication revolution, in their thinking manners, doing things, leadership styles of business and even their life style. On one hand information technology helps automating routine and well-defined work tasks that lead to substitution of human effort in record keeping, remembering, calculating etc., on the other hand bending to information technology to learn new technology, habit, speed, adjustment and coping up with the change. Thus, it is important to understand the effects of information technology not only on an individual's personal life but also on occupational job satisfaction of employees. In the present research work, a sample of 240 male and female executive of public and private sector organizations of young and middle age group are selected via convenient sampling technique. Instrument as Job Satisfaction Questionnaire developed and standardized by B.C. Muthayya (1973) was administered on IT and Non IT users. The analyses of result with the help of statistical methods (Factor analysis and ANNOVA) revealed that employees of public sector organizations reported employees of public sector organization reported higher Job Satisfaction and IT users experience more job satisfaction as technology is a boon.
