A Study to Assess The Eating Habits and Finds ITS Association with Obesity in Adolescent Girls at Selected College in Pune City

Abstract

Obesity is a major epidemic in many parts of the world. India ranks as the third most obese country over globe. The proportions of adolescents in the general population who are overweight and obese have doubled over the past two decades in developed and developing countries including India. Several studies also show that girls are more likely to get eating disorders as they are more concerned about their body weight. This study deals with finding the prevalence of obesity in adolescent girls and finding an association of eating habits prevalent among adolescent girls with obesity.

Quantitative non-experimental descriptive research design is adopted for the present study where Probability simple random sampling technique was used to grab a total of 100 samples.

Analysis shows that Majority 68% of adolescent girls have Moderate eating habits, 28% of respondents have Poor eating habits, and only 4% of respondents have Good eating habits. 13% of respondents are Overweight while 5% of them are obese. Since p value is small (greater than 0.05), thus it's evident that there is significant association between eating habits and obesity among adolescent girls.

This study concludes to have significant association between eating habits and obesity among adolescent girls.
