Abstract

Armed Forces of a country are responsible to protect the countrymen and land from foreign invasion and maintain peace in the region. A country with strong Armed Force is always looked upon by other countries as global power. The recent terrorist events in Iraq and Syria by ISIS, have proved what can happen if a country has a week military power. At the same time, we can claim that a country has a strong Armed Force if the country has modern weapons (small and big). Fighter jets are considered to be the most formidable fighting machines of the world. They are fast & agile and can carry various missiles and rockets and perform precision strikes. Modern fighter jets are face of military power of a country. History has proved time and again that victory has been to those who have the best fighter aircrafts. This paper is an attempt to understand the role and fitment of India's indigenously built LCA Tejas in Indian Air Force and Navy. Indian Air Force already has fleets of modern aircrafts and plan to buy new planes from foreign countries. So how much will the indigenously built Tejas will be helpful in maintaining air dominance in the region with China and Pakistan also increasing its Air Force squadrons. This paper also highlights Tejas’ impact on Indian economy and India's step towards becoming a superpower. The 30 years wait for an indigenous fighter jet; was it worthor India should have had other plans to acquire more foreign fighter aircrafts?
