Abstract

The new millennium is seeing the emergence of a society where the only differentiator between success and failure, for individuals, societies and corporations, is the knowledge they acquire and the usage of this knowledge. It is the usage of the explicit and tacit knowledge by an individual that makes the difference in his/her contribution to the society. A knowledge enabled society has the potential to completely transform and enhance the quality of life. The application of knowledge and the practice of knowledge as a precise science can create wonderful results in any organizational context. The work of every employee can become richer through access to best practices, particularly in highly competitive situations. India is progressing as knowledge based economy and not as a manufacturing based economy as China. Present day knowledge is technology oriented. Scholars are no more into building of theories. Have the scholars ever thought of what will happen to the body of knowledge after two centuries? We will run short of theories for applications. The quest to know is the lifeblood of knowledge. Obtaining a technical or professional degree shall only enable one to get jobs; but in no way does it ensure a thirst for more knowledge. The agony in the academic fraternity is that the present generation lacks this quest. The significance of this paper is to study and analyze how our present generation of PG students is into this quest for attaining knowledge. To understand their perceptions towards knowledge management practices, focusing on their skills for knowledge capture and knowledge retention and their diplomacy in sharing their obtained knowledge
