Abstract

This paper tries to dwell on the concept of media ethics with special reference to the Indian newspaper industry. In India, media ethics have been a notion associated with the traditional mass media. But with the development in technology and the advent of the internet the standard ethical practices are facing continuous challenge. The ethical standards and the code of conduct media practitioners should actually abide by is an ongoing debate. The responsibility of the press has changed along with the changing role of the government and its relationship with the people. This paper discusses the relevance of ethics laid down by PCI in the contemporary newspaper industry. It will also discuss incidents where the press deviated from the established ethical principles and journalistic norms practiced by press.
