The paper presents the nature of post-monsoon diurnal variations of surface ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), odd oxides of nitrogen (NOx), respiratory particulate matter (RPM), sulphur dioxide (SO2), methane (CH4), non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC), solar radiation, temperature and humidity for the period from 2007 to 2010 over Rabindra Bharati University (22.58°N, 88.36°E), West Bengal, India. Diurnal variations of these atmospheric minor constituents and meteorological parameters reveal higher value of surface ozone, temperature and solar radiation during day time, but lower value of other atmospheric constituents and meteorological parameters at the same time. Scattered variations of surface ozone with other atmospheric minor constituents and meteorological parameters clearly indicate that humidity, temperature, methane, odd oxides of nitrogen and carbon monoxide play significant roles in large enhancement of surface ozone concentration during day time. The related chemical and physical explanations have been offered.
