The study is on the assessment of general health status of adolescents studying in and around Mysore city. A total of 400 adolescents (200 early and 200 late adolescents) were randomly selected from Mysore city and nearby rural areas among of them which equal number comprised of male and female adolescents and equal number were from urban and rural areas. They were distributed in one setting the General Health Questionnaire developed by Goldberg (1978). The scale measured parameters like somatic symptoms, anxiety, depression, and social dysfunction. The collected data were, coded and analyzed using SPSS software. The data was treated using Two-way ANOVA to find the significant difference if any in developmental stages, area of living as well as gender. Results revealed that late adolescents were proned higher towards all the symptoms of GHQ than the early adolescents. Area wise revealed that urban are a adolescents were more prone towards somatic symptoms and anxiety and depression than rural adolescents. No significant differences were observed between male and female adolescents in all subscales. Strategies for improving general health status of adolescents have been discussed.
