Abstract

The chapter includes the emergence of green political thoughts and the history of ecology. Ecological thoughts are often seen as anti- humanism. They support the principle of biospheric egalitarianism. Ecologists are divided as deep ecologists and shallow ecologists. Arne Naess termed shallow perspective accepts the lesson of ecology but harness them to human needs and ends. Deep ecologists advance the more challenging idea that the purpose of human life is to help sustain nature. Ecologists believe in ecocentrisim. Ecocentrists demand shifting of the centre from human beings to nature. The chapter also highlighted four environmental views in relation to environmental crisis.
