Entrepreneurship is engine for growth and development of the backward and under-developed hilly areas like Doda region. Agriculture being the main stay is unable to sustain growing population and expectations of the people to raise their standard of living and to improve the level of their quality of life. The purpose of this research paper is to investigate vast un-tapped material and human resources in Doda region of J&K state which could be utilized for entrepreneurial growth in hilly areas of the state. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through a survey of 315 common households; 160 entrepreneurs and 21 villages of Doda region (Patwaris, Nambardars, Chowkidars and other revenue officials) to make the study fully representative. It has been established that Doda region of J&K state possesses huge material, as well as, human resources. Factors like cost of exploitation, lack of education and awareness and lack of efforts on the part of government are responsible for less utilization of such resources for further augmenting entrepreneurial activities in the area.
