Abstract

Teacher is the most important catalytic agent of society who influences the quality of education. Educational quality is directly related to the quality of the teachers. The production of quality teacher is possible through practices of necessary competencies in teacher education programme. The importance of competence-based teacher education programme and practice of teacher competencies in class room teaching-learning have been recognized by the teacher educators, student-teachers, in-service teachers and educational policy makers. This article critically analyses the research reviews in the field of teacher competencies. The research reviews are segregated on the basis of research methods Researches on teacher competencies have been conducted by using various research methodologies for the past one decade and it also includes sampling techniques, instruments, data collection and data analysis. It mainly focuses on to find out the effect of teacher competencies enhancement training strategies through experimental researches. The survey research focuses on to find out the difference in mastery of professional competences among teachers and the years of teaching experience in relation to their teacher competencies. Interviews focus on to find out the general notion of competence-based teacher education programme and importance of teacher competencies for national development. The mixed method research focuses on to find out teacher competencies and. their of students’ well being.
