Abstract

Menopause is the permanent cessation of women's menstrual cycle. It has been viewed as a developmental crisis women face in their middle age. It was decided to conduct a comparative study on anxiety and depression among premenopausal and post-menopausal women. There were 60 participants aged in between 40–55 in this study, among them 30 were premenopausal women and 30 were post-menopausal women. Statistical analysis called chi square test of homogeneity and Pearson's correlation were used. There found that both premenopausal and post-menopausal women are homogenous in the level of depression and anxiety. Also, there exist no relation between age and depression and anxiety in both groups and years since menopause and anxiety and depression in postmenopausal women. It may be because of some protective factors that they don't perceive menopause as distressing, which is to be explored.
